Track the location of your laptop/tablet

This demo is intended to show how to track a laptop/tablet, using the Accuware dashboard opened on the laptop/tablet itself.

Prerequisites:

  • at least 6 nodes.
  • power adapters or battery packs
  • a set of Accuware credentials (to access the Accuware dashboard and the Cloudtrax dashboard)
  • a high quality PNG/JPG/GIF floor plan of the test location.
  • a Wi-Fi enabled PC/laptop/tablet.
  • a Wi-Fi Internet connection broadcasted:
    • by the Open Mesh nodes.
    • or by a Wi-Fi network that operates on the same channel of the Open Mesh network.

Instructions:

  1. Setup Accuware Wi-Fi Location Monitor as described in this page
  2. Disconnect and dissociate the laptop from any other Wi-Fi network that might be used
  3. Connect the device to the Wi-Fi network provided by the Open Mesh nodes. If the Wi-Fi network is not visible please submit a support request using this form. Alternatively connect your laptop to a Wi-Fi networks that operates the same channel of the Open Mesh network
  4. Login to the Accuware dashboard
  5. Add the MAC address of your laptop/tablet among the list of Known devices by following these steps:
    1. Select the Wi-Fi Loc Monitor > Devices tab
    2. Click on Add Device
    3. Enter the MAC address of the laptop/tablet in the dialog box. If you need more information on how to find MAC address of your Wi-Fi stations, take a look at this page and optionally enter a name and a description for the Wi-Fi device
    4. Press Save
  6. Click on WiFi Loc Monitor > Map and select the Show switch for your laptop (listed into the Devices table)
  7. Click on the Selected button below the map. You should now be able to see a yellow dot that represents the location of your laptop!

Detection frequency: during your tests please give a constant look at the Last seen value of your laptop (reported into the Devices table). The Last seen value represents how often your laptop is detected by Accuware Wi-Fi Location Monitor and this value must remain between 0 and 5 seconds in order to see a fresh location. If it is not like this, please submit a support request using this form.

Track the location of a smartphone

This demo is intended to show how to track remotely a smartphone moving inside the environment, using the Accuware dashboard opened on a tablet/laptop.

Prerequisites:

  • at least 6 nodes.
  • power adapters or battery packs.
  • a set of Accuware credentials (to access the Accuware dashboard and the Cloudtrax dashboard).
  • a high quality PNG/JPG/GIF floor plan of the test location.
  • a Wi-Fi enabled smartphone.
  • a PC/laptop/tablet with a valid internet connection.

Instructions:

  1. Setup Accuware Wi-Fi Location Monitor as described in this page
  2. Disconnect and dissociate the smartphone from any other Wi-Fi network that might be used
  3. Disable the automatic lock-screen and leave the smartphone inside the menu where all the Wi-Fi networks are visible. This is necessary to ensure that the smartphone is actively transmitting Wi-Fi traffic during the whole time of the tests
  4. Login to the Accuware dashboard with your PC/laptop/tablet
  5. Add the MAC address of your smartphone among the list of Known devices by following these steps:
    1. Select the Wi-Fi Loc Monitor > Devices tab
    2. Click on Add Device
    3. Enter the MAC address of the smartphone in the dialog box. If you need more information on how to find MAC address of your Wi-Fi stations, take a look at this page and optionally enter a name and a description for the Wi-Fi device
    4. Press Save
  6. Click on WiFi Loc Monitor > Map and select the Show switch for your smartphone (listed into the Devices table)
  7. Click on the Selected button below the map. You should now be able to see a yellow dot that represents the location of your smartphone!

You can now ask to a colleague to go around with the smartphone and track his/her movements over the floor plan. The smartphone must be kept out of the pockets in the hands to get the best results.

Track a CCX Wi-Fi tag

This demo is intended to show how to track a CCX Wi-Fi tag moving inside the environment, using the Accuware dashboard opened on a tablet/laptop.

Prerequisites:

  • at least 6 nodes.
  • power adapters or battery packs.
  • a set of Accuware credentials (to access the Accuware dashboard and the Cloudtrax dashboard).
  • a high quality PNG/JPG/GIF floor plan of the test location.
  • a Wi-Fi tag (e.g. Accuware CCX Wi-Fi tag).
  • a PC/laptop/tablet with a valid internet connection.

Instructions:

  1. Setup Accuware Wi-Fi Location Monitor as described in this page
  2. Login to the Accuware dashboard with your PC/laptop/tablet
  3. Make sure that the nodes inside the Cloudtrax dashboard are set on the same Wi-Fi channel used by the Wi-Fi tag that you want to track (the Accuware CCX Wi-Fi tags transmit on channel 6)
  4. Add the MAC address of your Wi-Fi tag among the list of Known devices by following these steps:
    1. Select the Wi-Fi Loc Monitor > Devices tab
    2. Click on Add Device
    3. Enter the MAC address of the CCX Wi-Fi Tag in the dialog box. If you need more information on how to find MAC address of your Wi-Fi stations, take a look at this page and optionally enter a name and a description for the Wi-Fi device
    4. Press Save
  5. Click on WiFi Loc Monitor > Map and select the Show switch for your Wi-Fi tag (listed into the Devices table)

Monitor the location of all the Wi-Fi devices

This demo is intended to monitor the location of all the Wi-Fi enabled devices in the environment, using the Accuware dashboard opened on a tablet/laptop.

  • power adapters or battery packs
  • a set of Accuware credentials (to access the Accuware dashboard and the Cloudtrax dashboard)
  • a high quality PNG/JPG/GIF floor plan of the test location
  • a PC/laptop/tablet with a valid internet connection

Instructions:

  1. Setup Accuware Wi-Fi Location Monitor as described in this page
  2. Login to the Accuware dashboard with your PC/laptop/tablet
  3. Click on WiFi Loc Monitor > Map and click on the All devices button below the map
  4. You should now be able to see many orange dots that represent the location of the Wi-Fi devices all around your site.

Display a heat map (density map) of all the Wi-Fi devices detected

This demo is intended to display a heat maps (density maps) generated by the presence over the time of Wi-Fi devices.

Prerequisites:

  • at least 6 nodes.
  • power adapters or battery packs.
  • a set of Accuware credentials (to access the Accuware dashboard and the Cloudtrax dashboard).
  • a high quality PNG/JPG/GIF floor plan of the test location.
  • the CSV service and the Heat Map service active on your site. Both these services activated upon explicit request and NOT by default.
  • a PC/laptop/tablet with a valid internet connection.

Instructions:

  1. Setup Accuware Wi-Fi Location Monitor as described in this page.
  2. Leave your Accuware Wi-Fi Location Monitor installation running for at least 24 hours. This will allow the production of the first CSV file for your site that will be used as a source of data by the heat maps service.
  3. Visualize the heat maps on your PC/laptop/tablet, by following the instructions reported in this page.

Show the number of “unique visitors”

This demo is intended to show the aggregate number of unique MAC addresses within time windows of 10 minutes (for the past 4-5 hours).

Prerequisites:

  • at least 1 node (OM2P with external antenna or OM2P-HS).
  • a power adapter or a battery pack.
  • a set of Accuware credentials (to access the Accuware dashboard and the Cloudtrax dashboard).
  • a site setup and running for at least 20 minutes.

Instructions:

  1. Setup Accuware Wi-Fi Location Monitor as described in this page.
  2. Leave your installation running for at least 10 minutes. This will allow us to count the number of unique visitors of your site in the past 10 minutes.
  3. Access the Analytics section of the Accuware dashboard.
  4. In the Historical Data section select the “current date” as for the Form and To fields and select”10 Min” for the Freq field.
